On meeting people
CIAO:
this is the most typical of all friendly forms of greeting, used both on
meeting and on leaving someone you are familiar with (friends, relatives,
colleagues).

On leaving people
CIAO: this is a friendly
form which derives from the old Venetian language meaning “your
slave”.
ARRIVEDERCI = goodbye.
A PRESTO / A TRA POCO / A DOMANI : these forms
are used with people you will meet again in a short time.
CI VEDIAMO is quite vague and informal in tone,
and implies the possibility that the people will meet again,
sooner or later.
