A very typical Italian habit is that of saying “PERMESSO” (similar to "excuse me") on  entering someone’s home and every time  you are entering a room in somebody else’s home 

 

When you are introduced to someone you can simply say “PIACERE” or “MOLTO LIETO” ("nice to meet you") if it’s a woman

 

"PRONTO" ("hallo") is how to start a conversation on telephone
