In English, when spelling your name over the phone, you often use familiar words to clarify each letter, e.g. 'A for apple', 'P for Peter', 'C for Charlie', etc.

In Italian, you do the same thing, using names of Italian cities where possible:

A =            Ancona

B =            Bologna

C =            Cagliari

D =            Domodossola

E =            Empoli

F =             Forlė

G =            Genova

H =            acca

I =              Imola

L =             Livorno

M =            Milano

N =            Napoli

O =            Otranto

P =            Padova o Parma

Q =            cu

R =            Roma

S =            Savona

T =             Torino

U =            Udine

V =            Venezia o Vicenza

Z =             zeta

There are no Italian towns beginning with H, J, K, X, W and Y. You have to use the normal letter acca, i lunga, kappa, eex, vi doppia o doppia vu and ipsilon.
