The Italians are greedy, they probably consume more
desserts bought from cake shops (pasticceria) than those made
at home
www.pasticceriaspinella.it
On Sundays, they buy the classic tray of pastires (paste)
filled with cream, choccolate, zabaione (cream mixed with marsala) o
meringue with whipped cream, and less often flaky pastries.
But, it
is during traditional festivals that Italian pastry shops really go mad!:
-Panettone
and pandoro at Christmas time (and la pastiera
from Naples)
-Fried
pastries (with many different names according the region) at Carnival time
-Chocolate eggs (uova di cioccolata) at Easter complete with a
surprise inside.
-Sweet
beans (fave dolci) for the Saints.
