| The
most important Spring time festival is Easter. -
What do people do at Easter?
- At Easter a chocolate egg hiding a surprise is given
to children as present; lamb meat and the colomba (a cake
made of a special rising dough having the shape of a dove, symbol of peace)
are eaten.
On the Monday after Easter (Pasquetta)
people usually go out for a trip or a picnic in the country, where at
least one egg dish is a must.
The Ascension Day became less popular when it was moved
on the following Sunday. In Venice it is called Sensa and it
is "The Marriage to the Sea" Day. In old times the Doge, today the Mayor,
on board of the Bucintoro celebrates the mariage to the sea. (Venice
received life and richness from the sea). The mariage consists in dropping
a ring in the water. |
