To ask someone how something was, or has been, you
say: Com'è stato? 'How was it?'
or 'How has it been?' To answer you say È
stato... 'It was...' or 'It has been ....'
To say how you were, you say sono stato for a man or sono stata
for a woman.
Sono, sei, è
are used with verbs indicating movement too - sono andato, sono andata, "I've gone"
But with other verbs you use
ho, hai, ha... followed by a
word like lasciato, left, or perduto, lost, or dato,
given. The ending doesn't change.
